Happy New Year Everyone! 2016 started so perfectly - I hope it is an indicator of what's to come. I am a homebody - I would rather be home than anywhere else in the world. I woke up to a cloudy and cold morning. The day had a great winter feel.....especially after all the heat we have experienced.
My husband arrived later in the morning after a duck hunting adventure. He brought a duck home but who shot it is questionable. He said it was either him or his brother. (Hunting story?) He dressed the duck and it is in our freezer waiting for a jambalaya.
Michael then built a roaring fire in the fireplace.
I made a big pot of black eyed peas with ham to bring us good health. I just love Southern traditions.
I made a big skillet of cabbage and sausage to bring us wealth.
Michael made a great pone of cornbread. It was so good. We make a pretty good team in the kitchen.
This made for a great New Year's Plate. One of my favorite meals. Today just could not get any better.....................
Did I forget to mention college bowl games ,,,,,,,,,
How did you spend the first day of the New Year? Please share and leave comments. If you have not, please join the blog for more fun in 2016. Feeling thankful, Tina
I spent my New Years in Fennville, Michigan with Michelle's family. We have a New York Strip loin, squash, mashed potatoes, roasted beets, creamed spinach, blueberry pie, peppermint stick ice cream, and lavender blueberry icecream. It was 26 out and had snowed around 6 inches. We did Christmas and Michelle and I got lots of gifts! The wind has continually been blowing around 20 mph...it sounds like the big bad wolf is trying to blow the house down. I had a few glasses of eggnog and I also drank bourbon on the rocks for the first time in my life.(it wasn't terrible) Love and miss yall! I feel bad I missed out on the cabbage and back eyed peas!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great time. I miss both of you but I am glad you had a Michigan Christmas.
DeleteChris and I did not get peas and cabbage today. I missed them much more than I thought I would. My new meal plan post surgery won't allow it yet. I ended up eating a few boiled shrimp instead. After lunch with family, he took me bargain shopping at Hobby Lobby & Michaels in Shreveport. Ashleigh has designated Dec. 23, 2016 for her wedding date. I was thrilled to find many items she needed for the wedding and reception for 80% off since she plans a winter wedding. I felt my day was well spent! Happy New Year 2016 to you and your family!!
ReplyDeleteMelinda, no one loves 80% off more than me. Sounds like you had a great day. Please keep us updated on your health journey. I am so happy for Ashleigh - a Christmas time wedding will be awesome. Your family seems to be flourishing. Thanks for reading the blog.
